Sisters in Crime Workshops with Jess Lourey

We had a terrific day of learning with author/presenter/teacher Jess Lourey, who gave us valuable information in a dual workshop: Control Your Writing Career and Set Yourself Free.

Arranged with help from the national chapter of (SinC) Sisters in Crime, -- who work to promote women writers of mystery-- we're grateful to be able to take advantage of this kind of presentation. Highly recommended for learning the writing biz and succeeding. Lots of marketing info to sell more books, with insider tips and  resources.
Wouldn't it be nice to actually make money from writing and selling books?

We had a full room at the lovely Colonial Inn in Concord (who put on a tasty lunch for attendees).

A little business as well: Connie Johnson Hambley, SinC New England chapter President, gifts our previous prez, Edith Maxwell.

We also had a thank-you presentation to hard-working chapter officers and helpers

Here are the three Lisas: Jackson (who arranged this event!), Lieberman, and Matthews.

Another trio of good people: Ursula Wong, with Hans and Judy Copek

Local Author Fair at Chelmsford Library

We had a terrific day for our Chelmsford Library annual Local Author Day.
To see who everyone is, click the library link above for their writeup on each author.
Thanks to Jessica, Lisa, and the library staff for this day and for the support they always give to our local author community.

We made local news- a few pics from the event.
Lots of local authors showed up to talk about their work and meet library patrons.
We sold books, which make great holiday gifts!

Ursula Wong shows one of her Amber series (great for WWII buffs)

Sara Marks has a few of her own updated Jane Austen tales to tell you about

And Laura Fedolfi with her revealing mythology-flavored Hannah series

My own display

We each had a chance to take the mic and tell everyone about our work.
Here's Kathleen Murphy for her turn

And Ursula

Quite a good crowd flowing through. Lots of readers in this literate town!

Busy Week of Appearances

Whew! Had four writing appearances in one week, plus a meeting of a Mystery Book Group.
Add that to the day job and I have a tough time answering when people ask "when do you find time to write?"

Last week was the Boston Book Festival, followed by speaking on a panel at the Huntington Theater.
You can read about those here.

This week I gave a talk on mystery writing, "It's a Mystery to me" at the library in Pelham, NH, to a small but enthusiastic crowd, who are now new fans of the Zack Taylor series.

Had a sign out front

One woman said she'd read a great paragraph out to her husband, who then read the book in one sitting! They were quite happy to discover there were more in the series.
Thanks to Rita and the library for hosting this event.

And this Saturday, gave a workshop on The Business of Writing at the Thayer Memorial Library in Lancaster, MA, hosted by the Seven Bridge Writing Collaborative.
Thanks to Hollis and the library for hosting this one.

Introduced by author Ursula Wong

A larger crowd than my previous engagement.

And here I am

With books for sale

A week from Saturday, have another busy weekend. Saturday will be the Holiday Author's Market  at the Chelmsford Library from 1-3, and Sunday, I'll be at The Silver Unicorn bookshop, signing books with Ursula Wong.
